Roots
UWD started as a family company which was created in 1979. At that time Stan "Siacho" Smerecki started the Classic Canoes – a company that builds high-end wooden boats and yachts. Deep knowledge and enthusiasm for woodcraft allowed Siacho to inspire and train the next generation of passionate wood professionals. Since its establishment in 2008, UWD is devoted to carry on this legacy.
Living material
Wood has had a very close relationship with men for millennia. Nowadays, perhaps more than ever, we feel this deep connection to wooden objects and appreciate their natural beauty. From a global perspective wood is the most ecological, sustainable material. In the 21st century we witness its true renaissance – as shown in the rapidly growing interest in wooden constructions, including skyscrapers – buildings that have record low carbon footprint.

In Unique Wood Design every piece is made by hand. The team of knowledgeable artisans run projects from start to finish. From the initial selection and careful alignment of wooden elements up to the fine finish of the surface, the woodworking process requires the highest level of proficiency. Excellence in craft requires working not only by hand but also with mind and heart.
DeepWood®
DeepWood® is the state-of-the-art method of thorough wood impregnation invented by UWD. In the first stage multiple layers of resins soak into the material structure, significantly improving its mechanical properties. Subsequent layers create the anti-osmotic coating and makes the wood resistant to changes in surrounding relative humidity. The final layer provides UV protection and superior scratch resistance.
Longevity
Every piece crafted by UWD is intended to last for generations and someday become a family heirloom or collectors’ piece. The expected service life of a solid wood product is 60-80 years and after general renovation it can be extended multiple times. Its value grows over time and its universal design is timeless. The fact that carbon is stored in wood for such a long period of time has a direct positive impact on the environment.
